Absolutely not! As a matter of fact, most students start with one-on-one instruction. Whether you have a partner in your life or not, you are very welcome to take solo dance lessons at BallroomU.

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. Some students like to dress up and create a date night for themselves. Others come in athletic wear because they plan to work up a sweat. Either way, you will definitely want to wear comfortable and secure footwear. We would recommend avoiding sandals and flip-flops.

In the same way baseball players need baseball mitts; dancers need dance shoes. The proper pair of shoes will help you glide around the studio with ease and help minimize the risk of injury. Buy dance shoes.

One million percent yes. BallroomU is an inclusive and welcoming dance studio. We do not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation, race, gender, or anything else. Everyone is welcome to come dance in our studio.

In order to develop muscle memory, we recommend coming in at least twice a week. Once for a private lesson and once for a group class/practice party. However, many students choose to come more often – especially after they see how much fun it is to learn how to dance.

There are a number of nightclubs and dance halls throughout the Triangle area. In addition, BallroomU holds two parties each week that play a wide variety of music. We also host a few larger events throughout the year that combine social dancing with shows and competitions.

When your instructor decides you are ready to advance, he or she will schedule a coach to observe your dancing. This is not a test! The coach will simply take notes and provide insight to you and your instructor as to where your focus should be as you progress through different levels.

We adhere to and follow all ordinances issued by the Governor’s office or by city or county officials. Masks are available at the door. Students are welcome to wear masks at their own discretion. Our Cancellation Policy

We encourage students to attend their lessons as scheduled. In the event that a student needs to cancel a lesson, the following policies apply:

  • Students who cancel their private lessons one or more days prior to their lesson time will not be assessed a penalty. Students are highly encouraged to reschedule at the time of the cancellation. We are flexible and accommodating and will work around your availability.
  • Students who cancel their private lessons within 24 hours of the scheduled start time will be assessed the full lesson fee. This policy applies to all students at all levels and ensures that our teachers are compensated for their time.
  • Cancellations may be submitted in writing via email to info@ballroomu.com or via text message to (919) 601-7010.

Students who are tardy for their lessons will not have additional time added at the end of their lesson block or receive a refund for time missed.

Students can choose to end their private lessons at any time. We ask that at least one lesson notice be given for both temporary and permanent withdrawals.
